Burlesque

Loved Chicago and couldn’t get enough of Mamma Mia!? Then you’re going to gobble up Burlesque which has all the razzle dazzle that you need! Tess (Cher) owns the struggling Burlesque Lounge in Los Angeles and each month, it becomes harder to make ends meet. A retired dancer herself, Tess is reluctant to accept Marcus’ (Eric Dane) offer to buy the club. Tess’ final hope arrives unexpectedly in the form of Ali (Christina Aguilera) who begins her tenure at the club waiting tables. Ali’s got all the talent, energy and hope required but she’s going to have to withstand a heap of opposition from the jealous Nikki (Kristen Bell) who’s very threatened by Ali. But nothing will stop Ali, a talented singer and dancer who’s also been asked to choose between Marcus and Jack (Cam Gigandet), two boys keen on claiming her heart. Thanks to a couple of red hot performances from Aguilera and Cher, Burlesque hits all the right notes!

The Fighter

When a movie bags a couple of Oscars for Best Supporting Actor and Actress, you know it packs a punch. Based on a true story set back in the 1980s, The Fighter tells the story of Dicky Eklund (Christian Bale), a boxer whose upbringing has made him and his family a little rough around the edges. Dicky’s long-list of substance abuse issues has pretty much killed his own career but it’s not too late for his half-brother Micky (Mark Wahlberg) to win a championship belt. And with both Dicky and his new girlfriend Charlene (Amy Adams) in his corner, Micky’s ready to break away from his possessive mother’s (Melissa Leo) grip. Luckily for Micky, Dicky’s just been released after a short stint in jail for possession and he’s focused on helping Micky to chase his dream. There’s just one man standing in his way, Shea Neary (Anthony Molinari).

The Resident

As far as creepy thrillers go, The Resident ranks right up there with the best of them, especially when you factor in the top notch cast in two-time Oscar winner Hilary Swank and Jeffrey Dean Morgan (affectionately known as Denny from TV’s Grey’s Anatomy). Yep, with that line-up, you pretty much know that you’re set for one exceptionally entertaining flick. Juliet’s (Swank) just been through a painful break up with her boyfriend and her work as a doctor in New York City gives her the opportunity to make a clean break from her cheating partner. Soon, she meets Max (Morgan), her new landlord who’s seemingly an all-round nice guy. But there’s a reason her new apartment is so cheap to rent: it comes complete with a stalker (that’d be Max). The Resident is an effective thriller that’ll have you looking over your shoulder every now again – especially if you happen to be living alone.
