So, funny flick but I just couldn’t get my mind away from thinking about other couples where one half is soooo much better (we’re talking looks here) than their partner. So who’s out of whose league in terms of real-life celebrity couples? Check out my list:

Another funny flick that really, you can’t take too seriously. Yep, it’s the kinda flick you watch to enjoy the on-screen chemistry between Bell and Duhamel (not to mention, there’s eye candy for the guys and the girls).

The best things about When in Rome:

1. Josh Duhumel: seriously, he’s one hot guy!
2. You get to see the beautiful setting: for some of us, that’s the closest we’re EVER going to get to Rome anytime soon.
3. Dax from Punk’d scoring a role… wait, not so sure that’s a good thing!

Flick: I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell

Funny but gross (maybe it’s because I’m a girl). Sort of like The Hangover but worse in terms of vulgarity (yes, it is possible!). So, that led me to thinking of flicks that grossed me out just as much and here’s what I’ve come up with:

As usual, I think some shows were VERY hard done by (True Blood especially) but it wouldn’t be the first time, would it? Here are my Top 5 Emmy snubs in history!

How was Monica (Cox) the only “friend” ignored? It seems as though three really is a crowd (both Jennifer Aniston and Lisa Kudrow picked up awards for their roles as Rachel and Pheobe)!

We all remember the jingle: “Love and the marriage, love and the marriage…” How neither Ed O’Neill or Katey Sagal landed a golden statue for their portrayals of the loveable (yet rather outrageous) Al and Peggy, is a tragedy!

#1: Lauren Graham/Gilmore Girls

Hey, I really think this should be a bit of a Sarah Michelle Gellar/Buffy sook on my part, but guess what? I’ve been banned from whining anymore about it. That said, Graham perfectly played the mother every girl wishes for on the Gilmore Girls. Hey, maybe that’s because she was more like an older sister than a mum!

• How does Gere go from doing Chicago to this? Nah, there ain’t no prancin’ about in this one!
• How does Hawke go from New York, I Love You to this? Obviously, someone likes mixing it with big-name casts.
• “Tourism Brooklyn” will not be thanking the creators of this one… people won’t be listing Brooklyn as one of their top holiday destinations after watching this!
• Why do cops ALWAYS choose whiskey as their drink of choice? Why is it never wine, or vodka, or sherry? Hmm… is whiskey supposed to be more masculine or something? Last time I checked, it just burns!
• Why are cops on the verge of retirement always very reckless and wanting to go out with a big bang (as in die)? That’s Gere’s character in a nutshell!

• This is not one to watch with the kiddies in the same room!

C'mon... they do look alike!

• Is it just me or does Nyqvist look a little like Daniel Craig?
• How’s the upcoming Hollywood version going to stack up to this one?
• That’s one big bad tattoo that Rapace’s character sports: it looks rather painful!

• Thank goodness Cusack’s last flick wasn’t Serendipity… is it just me or was that painful (and I’m a chick!)?
• Where was Joan Cusack? She and her brother seem to land in the same flicks ALL the time!
• Maybe I need a hot tub… nah, who wants to go back to high school?

• Was I the only one cringing when the guys were half-naked in the tub? No… they’re no match for Eric (Alexander Skarsgard) from True Blood, that’s for sure!

• I don’t get why people want revenge when their partners cheat: you are only doing more harm to yourself if you end up say, locked in a cell because you’ve had a hissy fit!

• I had a revelation during this one: I don’t like Banderas and I don’t see why he’s “sexy”. I liked him best as Puss in Boots from Shrek 2 onwards! No offence or anything Antonio…

• Apparently, designer suits make women more attracted to you… just ask Banderas’ character: all he wears is fancy suits. Go on… chuck on some trackies, just for me!

Why this is hot: Red is NOT a subtle colour but it looks hot on the right person and Morrison’s look is sizzlin’.

(Yes, I only have two because I found everything else pretty outrageous!).

Excuses, excuses: I got it wrong but I’m glad The Good Wife didn’t win as horrible as that is to say… I like Mad Men (even though it lays the sexism on thick and fast) and it’s very different to anything else on television at the moment.

Excuses, excuses: Oooo now this one surprised me… I would have put money on Margulies to win… guess it’s a good thing I didn’t huh?

Excuses, excuses: So, I was totally off with this one but in my books, it’s a great thing that Laurie didn’t win because I’m sick of the same people being recognised over and over and over again!

Sarah says: Hey, I love Tiny Fey just as much as anyone else but The Big Bang Theory wasn’t even nominated. Shame on you Emmy Awards! Putting this little “issue” aside,there are some great contenders in this category and while I’ve got a soft spot for Nurse Jackie (shame on Channel 10 as well for taking this off the air so quickly), I think the hype surrounding 30 Rock will be too much to ignore for the judges.

Sarah says: This one is a little bit of a no brainer in my books. Edie Falco’s performance as Nurse Jackie has everything you can ask for: she’s kind hearted, strong, ruthless when she needs to be and despite her abuse of drugs and the fact that she cheats on her “perfect” husband, Falco portrays her in a way so that she still appeals to the audience. Beat that!

Sarah says: What a category! With the exception of Breaking Bad (which I haven’t actually seen much of), I love all of these shows. What I think will win it for The Good Wife is Julianna Margulies who’s become the strong feminine heroine of the moment. My heart strings REALLY want True Blood to win though: I like anything that doesn’t conform to the norm and I enjoy shows that push the boundaries (and yes… that amount of nudity on-screen DEFINETLY pushes it).

Sarah says: Okay, I get it, Laurie does showcase a flawless American accent when he’s British in House but come on! Hall deserves it in my books: he plays a killer, a killer with morals and a killer that we all love.

Hot new release flick #1: From Paris With Love

Who: John Travolta, Jonathan Rhys Meyers

The one question I just couldn’t get out of my mind after watching this:

•    How does Travolta stack up to other actors that have sported no hair?

Ahhh… the tough questions in life! Okay, let’s us consider this together. What other actors can you think of who are famous for being brave enough to rely on their chiselled features? Maybe brave is the wrong word, in some cases, it simply ain’t a choice! Anyway, check out this list and my comments:

•    Vin Diesel: Personally, he does absolutely NOTHING for me but plenty of ladies like this guy’s work.

The ladies do love this guy!

•   Jason Statham: Again, he’s not “my type” but there’s this one scene in The Expendables where he totally wins me over. For anyone that’s seen this flick, it’s the one where he deflates that basketball!
•    Bruce Willis: Yeah, he’s pretty cool in the Die Hard flicks but it’s his work in Cop Out that really wins me over!
•    Natalie Portman: Yes, this brave girl shaved her hair for V for Vendetta and I gotta say, she managed to look cool. Kudos to her!

Answer to the original question: Let’s be honest; Travolta should probably stick to having hair when he’s competing with seasoned no-hair campaigners such as Willis.

Hot new release flick #2: Wild Cherry

The one question I just couldn’t get out of my mind after watching this:

•    Why can’t I get the following movies out of my head?

So, I know that it’s wrong to be thinking about other flicks while you’re watching a movie but I just couldn’t help it. While Wild Cherry does definitely reflect more of a woman’s perspective in regards to sex, I just couldn’t get the following films out of my head:

•    The American Pie flicks
•    Not Another Teen Movie
•    Road Trip
•    EuroTrip

Answer to the original question: It’s all American Pie’s fault! Any movie related to young adults exploring their sexuality automatically makes me think of Jim (Jason Biggs) and the “pie incident”.

Hot new release flick #3: Evil Angel

Who: Ving Rhames, Ava Gaudet

The one question I just couldn’t get out of my mind after watching this:

•    What other films successfully used a religious theme to drive its narrative?

To give you a bit of a rundown without completely spoiling the flick for you, Evil Angel has a lot to do with women and is based around the Lilith legend of Jewish folklore. To cut a long story short, this deals with the notion that Adam’s first wife was not Eve but Lilith. Want to know more? Check out Evil Angel but in the meantime, I got to thinkin’ about some of my favourite religiously charged movies and came up with this list.

Whew! Well, that’s another week of new releases gone! Guess what this Sunday is? Yep, the Primetime Emmy Awards which leaves this Friday’s blog open for me to make my predictions about who’ll be walking away with golden statues. Do you remember the last time I did this for the Oscars? Not to blow my own trumpet and all but I got pretty much everything right. YAY for me! Will I be as successful this time? Well, let’s see but you just make sure you come back on Friday so that you can tell me how wrong (or right, let’s not forget that that’s a possibility too) I get it!

Flick: Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Thoughts, comments, opinions: Wow! This pairing is smokin’ hot and let’s face it, before we knew they were together, if you had to name the ultimate dream Hollywood couple, this would be it! I think a certain woman by the name of Jennifer Aniston may have been thinking otherwise though… not to mention, pulling out her hair! Oh well…

Who: Courtney Cox Arquette and David Arquette

Heads up!

Flicks: Scream movies

Thoughts, comments, opinions: Okay, so as far as I know, these two met on the first Scream movie and got along very well thank you very much. While watching the film, was I the only one who thought that the dopey Deputy “Dewey” (Arquette) had like NO chance of getting friendly with Gale (Cox-Arquette). Well, seems as though someone was wrong!

An interesting "all the colours of the rainbow" outfit that David's sporting...

Sizzle factor: 5/10 – I guess it was a cute coming together of two characters that really should never have gotten with one another… ultimately though, it still didn’t sit right with me (but hey, their marriage in real-life has lasted a pretty long time so good on these crazy kids!).

Who: Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman

He must have his "lifts" on!

Flick: Days of Thunder, Far and Away and Eyes Wide Shut
Thoughts, comments, opinions: I’m going to focus on Eyes Wide Shut pretty much because out of these three flicks, it’s the only movie that I’m young enough to have seen. To be honest… it didn’t surprise me when these two parted ways in real-life after this movie was done and dusted. And hey, neither did too badly out of that: Kidman got a hot country singing star and an Oscar for The Hours and Cruise got all jumpy on Oprah’s couch and now has a child with the much younger Katie Holmes.

Sizzle factor: 3/10 – Oh dear!

That brings me to her latest offering, Salt. There’s nothing quite like watching Margaret and David (from At the Movies with Margaret and David) debating over a flick and with this one, they were a little divided. David loved it (gee… I wonder why!) but Margaret wasn’t so quick to jump on the bandwagon (can anyone say “jealous”?). At the end of the day, who cares what they think! Make up your own mind, I know I have and I loved it! Call me crazy, but I think that Jolie makes a far better spy than James Bond ever did! OOoo, tell me what you think of that allegation by posting a comment below. In the meantime, I’ve gone ahead and listed my favourite Jolie flicks. Feel free to let me know whether you agree with this list as well!

#5: Girl, Interrupted

Who else apart from Jolie: Winona Ryder (aka: sticky fingers), Whoopi Goldberg and Brittany Murphy

Why this Jolie flick rocks:

• I love priceless quotes and try to beat this one offered by Goldberg’s character: “You are a lazy, self-indulgent little girl who is driving yourself crazy.”

See what I mean!

• It has Jared Leto in it and he’s a major hottie in my books!
• This is how Jolie is described by one critic: “a loose cannon that somehow has deadly aim.” Interesting description but pretty dead on the money if you ask me.
• To see how dying someone’s hair blonde can really make them look crazy in some cases (seriously, it gives Jolie a look that’s just a tad dishevelled but it works for this role).

#4: Lara Croft: Tomb Raider

Who else apart from Jolie: Her Dad, Jon Voight and Daniel Craig (although, before anyone knew that he existed)

Why this Jolie flick rocks:

• She REALLY does look like Lara Croft, the videogame Queen, it’s rather unsettling…
• As far as videogame adaptations go, it’s pretty awesome and packs in just enough action without going completely overboard
• Craig’s character is seriously hurt (hint: I don’t like him)

#3: The Good Shepherd

Who else apart from Jolie: Matt Damon, Alec Baldwin, Billy Crudup, William Hurt and Robert De Niro (who, by the way, also directed the flick)

Why this Jolie flick rocks:

• With this cast, you expect top-notch performances and in this case, it REALLY matters because otherwise, this film could’ve turned out to be quite the bore-fest
• It’s always fun to be given a little more insight into the CIA and its cover-ups and botch-ups (oops, sorry if that offends anyone)
• Damon and Jolie are fantastic on-screen displaying just how dysfunctional their characters’ relationship is

Hmm... what the?

#2: Mr. & Mrs. Smith

Who else apart from Jolie: Brad Pitt (yep, I can see your mind ticking over: “this is where all of the trouble began for Jennifer Aniston)

Why this Jolie flick rocks:

• It’s action packed
• With so many things going ka-BOOM constantly, it doesn’t require much mental thought on your part which is a good thing sometimes
• Pitt and Jolie sizzle up the screen – it’s almost too hot (I said “almost)

It would be freaky if you thought you brought home a boy that wasn't your son!

#1: Changeling

Who else apart from Jolie: Gattlin Griffith who delivers a great performance as Jolie’s son

Why this Jolie flick rocks:

• Jolie’s performance is chilling as a mother in search for her lost boy
• Clint Eastwood’s direction is bang-on and really builds the tension and the suspense
• I don’t have kids and even I was feeling Jolie’s pain – now that’s what any director aims for
• It gives you a glimpse as to how the times have changed: what parent would leave their son at home now while they went to work? Hmm… an unfit one!

My advice to you? After you’re done checking out Salt, go on a little bit of a Jolie binge because as you can see by that awesome list, you won’t be sorry! Join me Monday for a fun blog: husband and wife’s that just shouldn’t act on-screen together. Ooo, nasty!

Hot new release #1: The Book of Eli

Who: Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Jennifer Beals

Reasons to watch:

• Washington: we all know what a great actor this guy is but you know what I’ve found myself wondering lately: is “Denzel Washington” his real name? It can’t be… it’s way too cool!

Hmm... be scared Denzel, be very scared!

• Everybody loves a crazy villain like Oldman’s Carnegie… just look at how loved Hannibal Lector (Anthony Hopkins) is… he has a unique way of dealing with “people problems”… he just eats them away!

• A movie about people willing to risk their lives for a book? Come on… call me crazy, but it’s a little outrageous.

Hot new release #2: The Blind Side

Who: Sandra Bullock, Tim McGraw, Quinton Aaron

Reasons to watch:

• To see whether the blonde Bullock is any different from normal brunette Bullock (for the record, both are just as good as one another).
• It’s always fun to test people’s accents and Bullock sports a Southern accent in this flick… pretty good too if you ask me!

Yes, he's BIG!

• To marvel at the size of Aaron. Clearly, someone ate their Weet-Bix as a youngster.
• To see macho men wearing tights. It always makes me laugh how certain things that men wouldn’t been caught dead doing normally are okay on the sport’s field: like tapping each other’s behinds and wearing tight, tight pants.
• If you’re in need of a little bit of happiness, this is one feel good story that is actually based on truth (it’s refreshing to watch)!

Hot new release #3: Kick-Ass

Who: Aaron Johnson, Christopher Mintz-Plasse, Chloe Moretz

Reasons to watch:

• It’s a controversial title which means you have to give it a test run for yourself to see whether all the commotion is justified or coming from people who have no room in their life for humour.
• The costumes: and you thought your school uniform was (or is) bad… think again!

See what I mean about a bad "uniform"?

• This may offend some but I’ve never actually seen a Nicolas Cage movie without being forced to by someone else… cruel but true!
• At the end of the day, it’s downright hilarious!
